What better way to experience a country than through its people?
If you’re heading to Jamaica, you might want to consider taking advantage of their “Meet the People” program, where curious visitors are paired with local island ambassadors to explore the culture of the vibrant Caribbean island through people who know all about it.
Started in the late 1960s by the Jamaican Tourism Board, the program matches up individuals or families with Meet the People Ambassadors and their friends who share common interests, professions, or hobbies, that will help visitors round out their experience and get a glimpse into another side of this multi-cultural community.
Whatever the focus, the activities are uniquely Jamaican, providing an island experience that only the Jamaican people can create, and a pathway into the rich endearing heritage of the island’s culture, people, music, cuisine, and natural landscape.
Thinking about a trip to Jamaica? There’s no better time than the present, as proud islanders are gearing up to celebrate 50 years of independence this August. After you book, sign up for the Meet the People program here, or contact the local Jamaican Tourism Board office.
Like they say, “Whether it’s the memories of your outing or the friendship you have formed, the Meet the People experience will stay with you long after you’ve left Jamaica!”
