Renting a car
Prior to leaving for your trip, do not assume that your Auto or Credit Card insurance includes various levels of auto insurance. Double check with your insurance broker or read the credit card terms and conditions thoroughly. This will determine whether you accept or decline the car rental company (at great cost) insurance.
Before driving off in your rental car, take a few moments, especially when renting elsewhere than in North America, to check that the contract and rates are as you reserved. Once you have the car, check it carefully for any damage so you don’t get charged for scratches or dents that you did not cause. Make sure the rental representative documents any damage that you point out. You should be given a copy of the document describing the pre-existing damage for your own records.
