Kung Hei Fat Choi! Happy Chinese New Year!
Today (January 23) marks the first day of celebrations for the Chinese New Year, also known in China as “Spring Festival”. Last Tuesday, children in Bangkok,Thailand were treated to a special performance, which included a unique, underwater Chinese dragon dance, in preparation of welcoming the Year of the Black Water Dragon.
The Spring Festival signifies the end of the winter season. One of the longest and most important festivities in the Chinese calendar, the Spring Festival lasts for 15 days, starting with an annual reunion dinner on the New Year’s Eve, and culminating with the Lantern Festival, where candles are lit outside houses as a way to guide wayward spirits home, and families walk the street carrying lighted lanterns.
